ホタテ貝殻を原料とする海洋由来カルシウム素材「SeaFect®」を、水・食料生産の課題に向けた基盤技術へ

Shelltasは、約9年にわたる研究を重ね、日本の水産業から生まれる北海道産ホタテ貝殻を、独自の焼成技術で海洋由来カルシウム素材「SeaFect®」へ転換し、水環境・農業・養殖などの分野で研究開発を進めています。

2026年、シンガポールを海外展開における最重要拠点の一つとして位置づけました。今回の採択を通じ、日本で生まれた技術をシンガポールで磨き、ASEANへ展開する取り組みをさらに加速します。

日本の水産業から生まれる資源を、新しい産業技術へ

Shelltasが着目したのは、水産加工の過程で生まれるホタテ貝殻です。

これまで十分に価値を引き出しきれていなかった海からの資源を、独自技術によって海洋性カ

ルシウム素材「SeaFect®」へ転換。現在では、水環境、農業、養殖、建材など複数の産業分野

で研究開発と用途開発を進めています。

Shelltasが目指しているのは、単なる資源の再利用ではありません。日本の地域産業から生ま

れた資源を、世界が抱える水・食料生産・環境課題に活用できる基盤技術へ進化させることで

す。

気候変動時代、「水」と「食料生産」をどう支えるか

気候変動による高温化や水環境の変化は、農業や養殖をはじめとする食料生産に大きな影響を与えています。 

Shelltasは、農作物や魚介類そのものだけでなく、それらが生育する「環境」に着目してきました。特に、水環境をどのように設計し、安定させるかという視点から、SeaFect®を起点とした水環境設計技術「Water OS®」の開発を進め、環境変化が進む中でも持続可能な食料生産を支える仕組みの構築を目指しています。

日本国内で蓄積してきた知見を日本だけで終わらせず、水・食料・気候変動という共通課題を抱える国々へ展開していくことが、Shelltasの次のフェーズです。 

なぜ、シンガポールなのか

Shelltasは2026年に入り、シンガポールを海外事業における最重要拠点の一つとして位置づけ、現地での活動を本格化しています。 水産養殖分野の国際イベントでの口頭発表や、農業・食品分野の国際イベントへの登壇（予定含む）など、これまでもシンガポールを見据えた活動を重ねてきました。

シンガポールには、研究機関、スタートアップ、大企業、投資家、政府関連機関が集積するイノベーションエコシステムがあります。また、一つの市場としてだけでなく、東南アジア各国への事業展開を進めるハブとしても重要です。 

Shelltasではすでに現地のエコシステムを活用しながら、市場検証、研究機関や企業との連携、事業パートナー開拓などを進めており、将来的なシンガポール法人設立についても具体的に検討しています。 

目指すのは「日本からシンガポールへ」で終わることではありません。Singapore to ASEAN。シンガポールで技術と事業モデルを磨き、東南アジア各国へ展開できる仕組みを構築します。

その挑戦を後押しする「X-HUB TOKYO」に採択

こうした海外展開を進める中、Shelltasは「X-HUB TOKYO GLOBAL STARTUP ACCELERATOR OUTBOUND PROGRAM 2026」シンガポールコースに採択されました。 

X-HUB TOKYOは、東京発スタートアップのグローバル展開を支援するアクセラレーションプログラムです。2026年度シンガポールコースではATUM Venturesが提携パートナーを務め、シンガポールを拠点としたASEAN市場への事業拡大を支援します。

2026年10月26日から30日には、シンガポールで実施される現地プログラムにも参加予定です。

Shelltas Selected for X-HUB TOKYO Singapore Course to Accelerate ASEAN Expansion

SeaFect®, made from Hokkaido scallop shells, to be developed as a foundational technology for water and food production challenges

Shelltas Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Ota-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hirokazu Tokuda; "Shelltas") has been selected for the Singapore Course of the "X-HUB TOKYO GLOBAL STARTUP ACCELERATOR OUTBOUND PROGRAM 2026," organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and operated by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). 

Drawing on about nine years of research, Shelltas converts Hokkaido scallop shells, a by-product of Japan's fisheries industry, into SeaFect® using its proprietary calcination technology, and is advancing R&D in water environments, agriculture, aquaculture and other fields. Shelltas will use this selection to refine its technology in Singapore and expand into ASEAN.

From Japan's Fisheries Resources to New Industrial Technology

Scallop shells already have existing uses, but remain an "underutilized resource" whose potential as a high-functionality material has not been fully realized. Shelltas aims to go beyond simple resource reuse, evolving resources born from Japan's regional industries into a foundational technology for global challenges in water, food production and the environment. 

Climate change is significantly affecting agriculture and aquaculture. Shelltas focuses not only on crops and aquatic species, but on the environments in which they grow, and is developing Water OS®, a water-environment design technology built around SeaFect®, to support sustainable food production even as conditions change.

Why Singapore? 

Since the beginning of 2026, Shelltas has treated Singapore as one of its most important overseas bases, building on earlier work with Singapore in view, including an oral presentation at an international aquaculture event and an upcoming appearance at an international agri-food event. 

Singapore's ecosystem brings together research institutions, startups, major corporations, investors and government bodies. Shelltas is already using it for market validation, collaboration with companies and research institutions, and partner development, and is giving concrete consideration to establishing a Singapore entity in the future. 

The goal is not to stop at "Japan to Singapore," but to achieve "Singapore to ASEAN": refining the technology and business model in Singapore and building a structure that can expand across Southeast Asia.

Selected for X-HUB TOKYO 

For the 2026 Singapore Course of X-HUB TOKYO, which supports Tokyo-based startups' global expansion, ATUM Ventures serves as the program partner, supporting expansion into ASEAN from Singapore. Through the program, Shelltas will validate local markets and customer needs, create PoC opportunities with companies and research institutions, develop business partners for ASEAN expansion, build investor networks, and establish a business model with Singapore as its starting point. 

Shelltas will also take part in the on-site program in Singapore from October 26 to 30, 2026.
