時代を彩る作家たち 「現代アートとラグジュアリー」—栗本夏樹、シーズン・ラオ、大平和正—

現代アートを「観ること」から「空間体験・ラグジュアリー」へと繋ぐ3人の作家を紹介する展覧会が、京都ギャラリー白川で開催されている。

今回、展示されているのは、現代漆・栗本夏樹、現代茶碗・大平和正、現代美術家・シーズン・ラオ、による全24点。

煌めく色彩の世界 / 栗本夏樹現代漆

京都を代表する現代漆作家・栗本夏樹は、リッツ・カールトン(京都)、HOTEL THE MITSUI(京都) 、ブルガリ心斎橋にコレクションされるなど、伝統的な技法を用いて新しい漆の表現へ挑戦。国内外で高い評価を受けている。

とくに栗本の制作する深い緑は、ブルガリエメラルドとも呼応し、メゾンへ設置されている。

今展では１０点を展示。

手の中の宇宙、風還元 / 現代茶碗大平和正

Apple社創始者スティーブ・ジョブズ氏に作品が収蔵されるなど、日本の風土に根ざした視点で造形作品を多く発表してきた彫刻家・大平和正。

石や金属で制作を行ってきた大平和正が、信楽の土に魅せられ、土による造形作品を制作。韓国のビエンナーレにて招待作家として永久設置されるなど活躍。代表作ともなる４.１メートルの巨大作品「風還元―巨大な土の球体φ4.1m」は、「大地の芸術祭越後妻有アートトリエンナーレ2015」など４箇所にて移動展示された。

その後、手の中の宇宙として「茶碗は、彫刻」宣言を行い、現代茶碗の制作に至る。

今展では厳選された８点を展示。

シーズン・ラオ現代美術 / 余白、虚室・生白

マカオ生まれの現代美術家・シーズン・ラオは、日本の雪景色に魅せられたことから、水墨画のような世界を表現。リッツ・カールトン福岡のエントランス、10メートルにわたる大作を手掛けた。この作品は、博多織を用い、古代から東アジアとの交流拠点であった福岡の歴史・思想・美意識を再構築した作品で、リッツ・カールトン福岡のメインビジュアルとなっている。

その他、札幌随一のラグジュアリーホテル、インターコンチネンタル札幌、雪ニセコにもコレクションされている。

2023年にはニース国立東洋美術館（フランス）にて個展を開催するなど、国際的な評価を得ている。

今展では６点を展示。

栗本夏樹（1961- ）日本 / 現代漆

大阪府堺市生まれ。1987 京都市立芸術大学大学院美術研究科修了。現在京都市立芸術大学工芸科漆工研究室教授。ボストン美術館, U.S.A. /ヴィクトリア&アルバート美術館, ロンドン, U.K. フィラデルフィア美術館, U.S.A./ミネアポリス美術館, U.S.Aなどにコレクションされている。

Kurimoto Natsuki / Contemporary Urushi Art

Born in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. Graduated from the Graduate School of Art at Kyoto City University of Arts in 1987. Currently a professor in the Lacquerware Department at Kyoto City University of Arts.They are in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, U.S.A.; the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, U.K.; the Philadelphia Museum of Art, U.S.A.; the Minneapolis Institute of Art, U.S.A., and so on.

Natsuki Kurimoto, a leading contemporary Urushi artist from Kyoto, challenges new expressions of lacquer using traditional techniques, with works in the collections of The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto, HOTEL THE MITSUI, Kyoto, Hotel Granvia Kyoto, and Bulgari (Shinsaibashi). In particular, the deep green created by Kurimoto resonates with Bulgari’s emeralds and has been installed at the Maison.

大平和正（1943- ）日本 / 現代茶碗

東京に生まれる。武蔵野美術大学彫刻家卒業。日本の風土に根ざした環境造化という視点で陶、水、金属、石、作庭等、幅広い造形活動を展開。その後、信楽の土と出会い、陶による作品を制作。2018年より「風還元/茶碗」- 茶碗は彫刻- 宣言をして、現代茶碗の発表をスタート。

Ohira Kazumasa / CHAWAN – tea bowls

Born in Tokyo. Graduated from Musashino Art University with a degree in Sculpture. Exploring a wide range of art forms like ceramics, water, metal, stone, and garden making from the perspective of environmental creation rooted in Japanese culture. Later, encountered Shigaraki clay and started creating works with ceramics. Since 2018, declared 'Fū Kangen / Chawan – the teabowl is sculpture' and began presenting contemporary teabowls.

Kazumasa Ohira, whose works have been collected by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and who has presented sculptural works from a perspective rooted in the Japanese landscape and culture, has in recent years declared, “A tea bowl is a sculpture,” and has been taking on the challenge of creating contemporary tea bowls.

シーズン・ラオ（1987- ）マカオ / 現代美術

1987年ポルトガル領マカオ生まれ。マカオ理工大学卒業。
2010年から北海道、2020年から京都に拠点を構える。2023年ニース国立東洋美術館にて、22.3mの大作を含む半年にわたる個展開催。2023年福岡リッツカールトンのメインビジュアルに採用される。近年ラグジュアリーホテルに作品が採用されている。

Season Lao 劉善恆 / Contemporary artist
Born in 1987 in Portuguese Macau. Graduated from Macau University of Science and Technology.

Based in Hokkaido from 2010 and Kyoto from 2020. In 2023, held a six-month solo exhibition at the National Museum of Asian Arts in Nice, including a huge 22.3m work.

In 2023, featured as the main visual at the Ritz-Carlton in Fukuoka. In recent years, works have been used in luxury hotels.

At the entrance of The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka, Season Lao created a 10-meter-long masterpiece using Hakata-ori, reconstructing Fukuoka’s history, philosophy, and aesthetic sensibilities as a hub of exchange with East Asia since ancient times. The work serves as the main visual. His works are also part of the collections at Sapporo’s premier luxury hotel, InterContinental Sapporo, and at Setsu Niseko.
