UESHIMA MUSEUM Launches Japan’s First “Airbnb Original Experience” in Collaboration with Art Basel

UESHIMA MUSEUM（https://ueshima-museum.com）は、Art BaselおよびAirbnbとのパートナーシップのもと、Airbnb公式限定プログラム「Airbnb Original Experience」の日本初実施美術館として、閉館後の美術館を少人数で巡る特別ツアーを開始いたします。

初回開催は2025年11月7日（金）を予定しております。

本企画は、Art Baselが監修し、Airbnbを通じて提供される限定プログラムの一環として実施され、世界5都市（ニューヨーク、東京、メキシコシティ、パリ、ロサンゼルス）で展開予定です。

UESHIMA MUSEUMは、日本で最初に本プログラムを実施する美術館として参加いたします。

本ツアーでは、当館の現在のエグジビション「創造的な出会いのためのテーマ別展示」のキュレーターで、 京都大学経営管理大学院客員教授 、 東京芸術大学名誉教授、 前金沢21世紀美術館館長である長谷川祐子が直々にご案内し、自身がキュレーションを手がけた作品群を中心に、コレクションの魅力をご紹介いたします。

閉館後の静寂の中で、アートとじっくり向き合う特別な時間をお楽しみいただけます。

UESHIMA MUSEUM, in collaboration with Art Basel and Airbnb, is launching Japan’s first Airbnb Original Experience — an exclusive after-hours tour offering an intimate encounter with art in Tokyo.

The first tour is set to take place on Friday, November 7, 2025.

This initiative is part of a global series curated by Art Basel and presented through Airbnb, expanding across five cities worldwide—New York, Tokyo, Mexico City, Paris, and Los Angeles. UESHIMA MUSEUM will participate as the first museum in Japan to host this program. Additionally, according to Airbnb, UESHIMA MUSEUM will be kicking off their Tokyo-based experiences for 2025 and is currently the only Tokyo representative in this growing global collection.

The tour will be guided by Yuko Hasegawa (Visiting Professor, Graduate School of Business Administration, Kyoto University / Professor Emeritus, Tokyo University of the Arts / Former Director, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa ), who curated the museum’s current exhibition “Thematic Exhibitions for Creative Encounters.”

She will introduce highlights from the collection in an intimate setting, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience art in the quiet of the museum after hours.

UESHIMA MUSEUMは、UESHIMA MUSEUM COLLECTIONのオーナーである植島幹九郎の母校でもあり、「自調自考」を基本目標に国際的な視野や高い倫理観を重視した教育を行う事で高い評価を受けている、渋谷教育学園の敷地内に位置します。また、当美術館の建物は、1988年に設立され、翌年9月に当時の英国首相であった故マーガレット・サッチャー氏同席のもと開校式の行われたブリティッシュ・スクール・イン・東京が2023年8月まで利用していた建物をリノベーションの上、開館致しました。

**About UESHIMA MUSEUM**

UESHIMA MUSEUM is located on the grounds of Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen, the alma mater of UESHIMA COLLECTION owner Kankuro Ueshima. It is highly regarded for its emphasis on international perspective and high ethical standards in education under the fundamental goal of "Seek and Think for Oneself." (“Jicho-Jiko”) The museum’s building, named “Ueshima Tower, Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen”, was renovated from the former British School in Tokyo, which was established in 1988 and held its opening ceremony in September of the following year in the presence of the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The British School in Tokyo was utilized until August 2023 and was reopened after renovation.

UESHIMA MUSEUM COLLECTION創設者。1979年千葉県生まれ。1998年渋谷教育学園幕張高等学校卒業、東京大学理科一類入学。東京大学工学部在学中に株式会社ドリームキャリアを起業し、現在では事業家・投資家として多角的にビジネスを展開する傍ら、国内外のオークションハウスやギャラリーを渉猟。国内外一流作家から国内若手作家に至るまで幅広く、現代アート作品のコレクションを続けています。2024年、US版Artnews Top 200 collectors(その年に最もアクティブだった世界のスーパー・アートコレクター200人を紹介する特集)に選出されました。

**Kankuro Ueshima Profile**

Founder of "UESHIMA MUSEUM COLLECTION", born in Chiba prefecture, Japan in 1979. Ueshima graduated from Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen Makuhari Senior High School in 1998, then enrolled in the Natural Sciences I at the University of Tokyo. While attending the Faculty of Engineering, he started his own business and has since developed a diversified business as an entrepreneur and investor.

京都大学経営管理大学院客員教授 / 国際文化会館 アート、デザイン部門プログラムディレクター / 元金沢21世紀美術館 館長(2021年4月-2025年3月) / 東京藝術大学名誉教授 / 総合地球環境学研究所客員教授

キュレーター／美術批評。京都大学法学部卒業。東京藝術大学美術研究科修士課程修了。水戸芸術館学芸員、ホイットニー美術館客員キュレーター、世田谷美術館学芸員、金沢21世紀美術館学芸課長及び芸術監督、東京都現代美術館学芸課長及び参事を経て、犬島「家プロジェクト」アーティスティック・ディレクター。文化庁長官表彰（2020年）、フランス芸術文化勲章（2015年）、ブラジル文化勲章（2017年）を受賞。これまでイスタンブール（2001年）、上海 (2002 年)、サンパウロ (2010 年)、シャルジャ（2013年）、モスクワ（2017年）、タイ（2021年）などでのビエンナーレや、フランスで日本文化を紹介する「ジャパノラマ：日本の現代アートの新しいヴィジョン」、「ジャポニスム 2018：深みへ―日本の美意識を求めて―」展を含む数々の国際展を企画。国内では東京都現代美術館にて、ダムタイプ、オラファー・エリアソン、ライゾマティクスなどの個展を手がけた他、坂本龍一、野村萬斎、佐藤卓らと「東京アートミーティング」シリーズを共同企画した。「森の芸術祭 晴れの国・岡山」（会期2024年9月28日〜11月24日）にてアートディレクターを務める。主な著書に、『キュレーション 知と感性を揺さぶる力』、『「なぜ？」から始める現代アート』、『破壊しに、と彼女たちは言う：柔らかに境界を横断する女性アーティストたち』『ジャパノラマ―1970年以降の日本の現代アート』『新しいエコロジーとアート 「まごつき期」としての人新世』など。

Visiting Professor, Graduate School of Business Administration, Kyoto University / Program Director, Department of Art and Design, International House of Japan / Former Director, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (April 2021 - March 2025) / Professor Emeritus, Tokyo University of the Arts / Visiting Professor, Institute for Integrated Global Environmental Studies

She has served as a curator at Art Tower Mito (1989–93), visiting curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art (1992–93), curator at the Setagaya Art Museum (1993–99) and Artistic Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo(2016-March 2021). She is also Artistic Director of the Inujima Art House Project(2011- present). She completed a BA in Law at Kyoto University, and an MFA in Art History at Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music. She has been honored with the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, France (2015), the Ordem de Rio Branco, Brazil (2017), and Japan Commissioner for Cultural Affairs Award, the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japan (2020).
