ウエスタンデジタルコーポレーション（NASDAQ：WDC、以下ウエスタンデジタル）は、米国で実施されたFlash Perspectives Eventにおいて、ユニバーサルフラッシュストレージ3.1（UFS）に対応した新しい組み込み型フラッシュプラットフォームを発表しました。これにより、モバイル、自動車、IoT、AR/VR、ドローンなど、生活、仕事、余暇のあり方を変えつつある新興分野で新しいアプリケーションを開発できるようになります。

常時オン、常時接続、常時利用が可能なモバイル化が進む世界において、JEDECに準拠したUFS 3.1仕様( https://www.jedec.org/standards-documents/focus/flash/universal-flash-storage-ufs )に基づいたウエスタンデジタル独自のUFS 3.1プラットフォームは、小型、薄型、軽量のソリューションを構築する際に必要なスピード、信頼性、多様な機能を提供します。ウエスタンデジタルは、NAND、ファームウェア、コントローラ設計、ソフトウェア、ドライバーを最適化する垂直統合ビジネスモデルを駆使して、モバイル、IoT、自動車などのさまざまな市場向けの専用ソリューションを効率的に設計することができます。これらすべてが共通のUFS 3.1アーキテクチャを活用しています。本日発表した新しいプラットフォームは、従来の製品仕様に比べシーケンシャルの書き込み性能を最大90%向上させます。これにより、5G通信やWiFi6などでの8K動画などのリッチメディア視聴やバーストモード写真撮影などでの使い勝手向上に寄与します。

ウエスタンデジタルは、このプラットフォームをベースにして、モバイルおよびコンシューマーアプリケーション向けの新製品ファミリーから開発を始めています。また、ハードウェアのエコシステムパートナーと協力して、今後のソリューションにこのプラットフォームを搭載することを目指しています。2021年下期には新製品を市場に投入する予定です。
