遠隔モニタリングシステムの構築支援を行ったメタンハイドレート長期産出試験の終了＜English follows＞

Completion of the Long-Term Methane Hydrate Production Test supported by TOYO

東洋エンジニアリング株式会社（取締役社長 細井 栄治、以下、TOYO）が、独立行政法人エネルギー・金属鉱物資源機構（以下、JOGMEC）から受託し支援業務を進めている、米国アラスカ州ノーススローププルドーベイ鉱区でのメタンハイドレート長期陸上産出試験において、現地2024年7月30日にガスの産出試験が終了しました。

JOGMECは、国立研究開発法人産業技術総合研究所および日本メタンハイドレート調査株式会社とともに、コンソーシアム（MH21-S研究開発コンソーシアム）を組成し、経済産業省よりメタンハイドレートの商業開発に向けた研究開発を受託しており、その一環としてアラスカでのメタンハイドレート長期陸上産出試験を進めてきました。

長期陸上産出試験の概要としては、2023年9月19日に電動水中ポンプ（Electrical Submergible Pump-ESP）の運転が開始され、およそ10カ月にわたり産出試験が実施されました。その間に産出試験の目的の１つであった、生産井を減圧制御することによる長期生産挙動のデータが取得されました。また、長期生産に伴う技術課題の検証がされ、詳細な分析はMH21-S研究開発コンソーシアム及び米国パートナー等により進行中です。

本試験において、TOYOは産出試験中の現場作業監理支援業務とあわせて、遠隔モニタリングシステムの運用・保守を行いました。TOYOが構築した遠隔モニタリングシステムは、産出試験サイトのモニタリングデータをリアルタイムで収集し、これをもとに遠隔でのオペレーション状況の把握や、データをダウンロードしての即時解析を実現しました。

今後は、産出試験後のモニタリングが引き続き行われる他、物理探査（3D VSP）や設備撤去等が計画されており、TOYOはこれらの実施について引き続きJOGMECを支援してまいります。

The Long-Term Onshore Methane Hydrate Production Test at the Prudhoe Bay Unit on the North Slope of Alaska, U.S.A., was completed on July 30, 2024, which Toyo Engineering Corporation (TOYO, President and CEO Eiji Hosoi) has been commissioned by the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC).

The MH21-S R&D consortium consists of JOGMEC, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and Japan Methane Hydrate Operating Co., Ltd. (JMH). The consortium has been conducting research and development for future commercial development of methane hydrate under contract with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan. As a part of such research and development, the long-term onshore methane hydrate production test in Alaska has been conducted, led by JOGMEC and its US collaborative partner, the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).

Since the initiation of downhole pump operation on September 19, 2023, the production test has been conducted for approximately 10 months. During this period, data on long-term production behavior, a key objective of the test, has been collected through controlled depressurization of the production well. The technical issues associated with long-term production have been verified and detailed analysis is underway by the MH21-S R&D consortium and the U.S. partner.

TOYO has been operating and maintaining a remote monitoring system, and has provided on-site work supervision support services during the production test. The remote monitoring system that TOYO has constructed collects monitoring data in real time from the production test site on the North Slope of Alaska, and supports JOGMEC in achieving its objectives by enabling the monitoring of operational status from remote locations and immediate analysis by downloading data. 

In the future, in addition to continuing post-production monitoring, plans include physical exploration (3D VSP) and facility decommissioning. TOYO will continue to support JOGMEC in these efforts.
