クラウドデータセンター向けに大容量SSDの新ファミリーを発表

■新しい2.5型Ultrastar® 15.36TB PCIe®4.0およびE1.L NVMe™ SSDはTCOとQoSを改善しクラウドへの継続的デジタルトランスフォーメーションを支援

ウエスタンデジタルコーポレーション（NASDAQ：WDC、以下ウエスタンデジタル）は、一部のハイパースケール顧客を対象に、新しいUltrastar® NVMe™ PCIe® 4.0 SSDのサンプル出荷を開始したことを発表しました。この新しいSSDは、強力な垂直統合の開発体制をベースに、パブリッククラウド導入時のTCO削減と、スケーラブルなパフォーマンスの提供を目的として設計しています。

今日では、クラウドインフラストラクチャーは分離化を進展させることで、拡大するAs-a-Serviceオファリングに弾力性、拡張性、予測可能性を提供しています。コンピューティングからストレージを分離することで、大容量データセンターのNVMe SSDという新しいセグメントも生まれました。これにより、ストレージ使用率が向上し、仮想化およびマルチテナント環境のデータセンター内ラック密度が高めることができます。現在進行中のクラウドへのデジタルトランスフォーメーションや、IoTから新たに生成される膨大なデータの単なるストレージとして、新しいUltrastar NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSDを使用することで、クラウドサービスの導入とデータセンターの拡張を加速することができます。

スケーラブルなパフォーマンスを実現する新しい大容量NVMe SSD
新しいUltrastar DC SN650 NVMe SSDファミリーには、従来のインフラストラクチャー向けの2.5型フォームファクターと、よりスリムなRuler（定規）スタイルのE1.Lフォームファクターがあり、いずれも最大15.36TB¹の容量を備え、次世代BiCS5 3D TLC NANDとPCIe 4.0インターフェースを搭載しています。

Ultrastar DC SN650 NVMe SSDは、SSDあたりの仮想化ホスト数を増やし、より大きなアプリケーションデータセットを統合することで、ストレージリソースの使用率を向上させます。ビッグデータ分析やAI/ML向けのこれらのデータセットも、DC SN 650 NVMe SSDの低遅延と高スループット性能を発揮して大容量に移行することで、解析結果を得るまでの時間を短縮し、リアルタイム分析を高速化するメリットも得られます。よりスリムなE1.Lフォームファクターは、ラックストレージの密度を大幅に高め、TCOを削減しながらストレージの管理性、保守性、および効率を向上させます。DC SN650 E1.L NVMe SSDは、OCP Cloud Specification 1.0aに準拠しています。

ウエスタンデジタルは現在、Ultrastar DC SN650ドライブのサンプル出荷を行っており、2022年後半に量産出荷を開始する予定です。
