故・堀越千秋氏 個展「千秋 最後の旅　–ミャンマーで仏陀に出会う−」を開催

麹町コレクション（東京都千代田区麹町）にて12月5日（月）から17日（土）まで

モード＆ギャラリー麹町コレクション（東京都千代田区麹町）は、2016年12月5日（月）から12月17日（土）までの期間において、画家の故・堀越千秋氏の作品展「千秋 最後の旅　–ミャンマーで仏陀に出会う−」を開催致します。この展示会では、2014年に堀越氏がミャンマーを旅した際に描いた未発表作品の中から、厳選した作品を公開・販売致します。なお、初日の17時より、オープニングレセプションを開催致します。

【開催の趣旨】
２年前の12月、画家の堀越千秋氏はミャンマーを訪ねた。民主化間もない現在のミャンマーは、政治や経済が激動する中、歴史的な遺跡等の風景も変化している。ミャンマーの発展に欠かせないのは文化的な豊かさであるとの想いの元、現在のミャンマーを絵に残そうと堀越氏は心に決め、旅を通じて絵を描いた。「10年後には、この風景は残っていないかもしれないね」とつぶやきながら、千秋はスケッチをしていた。

【堀越千秋　略歴】
1948年11月4日、3代続いた画家の家に生まれる。東京生まれ。東京芸大油絵科卒業後、スペイン政府給付留学生として渡西。その仕事は絵画にとどまらず、リトグラフや木版画に及ぶ。小島章司フラメンコ公演の舞台美術、逢坂剛「斜影はるかな国」、村田喜代子「人が見たら蛙に化れ」などの新聞小説の挿絵、絵本では小川未明「眠い街」、森澄雄「見て忘る」、詩画集では小川英晴「なつやすみ」、その他、ANA機内誌「翼の王国」の表紙絵、週刊朝日「美を見て死ね」など多岐にわたる。世界各地で個展を開催。武満徹全集挿絵において経済大臣賞受賞、ライプチヒ「世界で一番美しい本」コンクール日本代表。
2014年9月スペイン国王よりエンコミエンダ章（文化功労章）受章。
2016年10月31日午後9:45（現地時間）スペインマドリッドにて永眠。

Horikoshi Chiaki’s solo exhibition
The last journey to Myanmar for meeting Buddha

Mode & Gallery Kojimachi Collection holds a solo exhibition of the last Mr. Horikoshi Chiaki, the last journey to Myanmar for meeting Buddha, for the period of from December 5 (Mon.) to December 17 (Sat.). The works to be displayed this time are the ones which being strictly selected from his new works born out of his journey in Myanmar in 2014 and they are available for sales. The opening reception is set for the first day of the exhibition.

Why this exhibition now
Mr. Horikoshi Chiaki visited Myanmar in December 2014. Now in the country facing a rapid change in politics and economy accompanied by its democratization policy, its rural scene and historical remains are being lost. “Rich traditional culture is the foundation of real developments.” Mr. Horikoshi decided, with this firm belief, to save the beautiful old Myanmar in his works and kept drawing throughout his journey murmuring “Such a view might disappear within a decade.”

About the artist
November 4 1948, Mr. Horikoshi was born in Tokyo as the third-generation of an artist family. After graduating from Tokyo University of the Art (oil painting), he studied art in Spain on the Spanish government’s scholarship. His creative activities extend to lithograph and wood block print as well and his works cover artist field as the following list shows.

Mr. Horikoshi held his solo exhibitions all over the world. He also participated in “The most beautiful book in the world” contest held in Leipzig representing Japan.
In September 2014, he was given an Encomienda Medal for his distinguished service to the culture by King of Spain.
Mr. Horikoshi died October 31, 2016 at 9:45 p.m. (local time) in Madrid, Spain.
