First Japanese Winner! Our CEO receives the Most Disruptive Award at Women in Tech® Global Awards!

cosmobloom Inc. (Headquarters: Ota-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Momoko Fukunaga, hereinafter referred to as "cosmobloom"), a company dedicated to realizing large-scale structures in space, is pleased to announce that its CEO, Momoko Fukunaga, has become the first Japanese recipient of the Most Disruptive Award at the 7th edition of the Women in Tech® Global Awards, held in Paris in November 2024.

The Women in Tech® Global Awards recognize outstanding achievements across nine categories: Aspiring Teen Award, Best Ally Award, Most Impactful Initiative Award, Most Disruptive Award, Woman in Web3 Award, GREENTECH Start-Up Award, TECH DIPLOMACY Award, Global Leadership Women in Tech® Award, and Women in Tech® Lifetime Achievement Award. Winners are selected from seven global regions: Latin America, North America, Africa, Europe, APAC (Asia-Pacific), MENA (Middle East and North Africa), and CCA (Caucasus and Central Asia). The final global winners are announced at the awards ceremony in Paris.

Fukunaga founded cosmobloom in 2023 with the aim of bringing space-based large-structure construction technologies, which she had researched during her student years, to practical use. Her work includes developing deorbit devices to address the growing space debris issue, as well as pioneering research on membrane antennas and future space-based solar power systems. These groundbreaking efforts have been highly acclaimed, leading to her recognition with the Most Disruptive Award.

I am truly honored to receive the prestigious Most Disruptive Award. I was already incredibly surprised when I won at the APAC level, but I never imagined I would be selected as a Global winner. In the space industry, it is rare to meet other women, yet through Women in Tech, I had the opportunity to connect with inspiring women from around the world who are working passionately to create positive change. Winning this award is an honor, but meeting such incredible individuals has also been a priceless experience. I will continue striving forward, carrying this recognition with pride.

What is cosmobloom Inc.

cosmobloom is a company specializing in the analysis, design, and development of space structures utilizing ultra-flexible materials such as membranes and cables, known as "gossamer structures." The company originated from the Miyazaki Laboratory at Nihon University’s Department of Aerospace Engineering (now the JAXA Space Structures System Laboratory). cosmobloom’s core technology lies in the analysis of gossamer structures. The nonlinear elastic dynamic analysis code "NEDA," developed during Fukunaga’s research lab years, was used in the membrane deployment simulations for JAXA’s small solar power sail demonstrator, IKAROS, launched in 2010. IKAROS became the world’s first successful interplanetary mission to use solar sails as its primary propulsion system, demonstrating NEDA’s effectiveness. cosmobloom leverages NEDA and its experience in spacecraft development to provide feasible solutions for clients involved in the analysis, design, and development of gossamer space structures.
