〜クイーンズランド州政府関係者、オーストラリア国内外企業がワークショップに参加～

株式会社SOL Holdingsの子会社である株式会社スーパーソルガム（所在地：神奈川県川崎市、代表取締役社長：宮嶋 淳、以下 (株) スーパーソルガム）は、2014年3月10日、オーストラリア連邦（以下、オーストラリア）のクイーンズランド州バーデキン地区において、スーパーソルガム圃場見学会を開催いたしました。

 

■主な経緯
SOL Holdingsグループは、2013年9月25日付にて公表いたしました「オーストラリアにおけるデモンストレーション栽培の実施に関するお知らせ」の通り、オーストラリア国内のクイーンズランド州バーデキン地区の現地農業組合が保有する圃場において、スーパーソルガムの生育力を披露するためのデモンストレーション栽培を実施してまいりました。

■オーストラリアにおけるサトウキビ生産の現況
オーストラリアは世界有数のサトウキビ生産国で、収穫されたサトウキビは主に粗糖の原料に利用されています。中でもオーストラリアのクイーンズランド州バーデキン地区は、年間サトウキビ 生産量が地区全体で９００万tと世界でもトップレベルのサトウキビ生産量を誇る一大産地です。

バーデキン地区は乾燥地帯でありながら地下水が豊富であり、この地下水を利用して、クイーンズランド州で唯一、全圃場において灌漑（農作物のために人工的に圃場へ水を供給すること）という手法を用いているため、サトウキビ生産量はオーストラリア全域平均が１haあたり約８６ｔであるのに対し、バーデキン地区では1haあたり約１２０ｔと、通常より高い収穫量を得ることが可能です。バーデキン地区の気候や灌漑を活用した栽培は、スーパーソルガムにとっても大変有利に働き、当該デモンストレーション栽培でスーパーソルガムは、播種後約４カ月で５ｍ以上の生長を記録いたしました。

■スーパーソルガム試験栽培圃場見学会の内容について
本デモンストレーション栽培によるスーパーソルガムの驚異的なパフォーマンスを実際にご確認いただくため、2014年3月10日、「スーパーソルガム圃場見学会」を開催いたしました。見学会には、クイーンズランド州政府関係者やオーストラリア国内外に多数の工場を保有する大手粗糖会社、現地農業組合のほか国内外の企業など多くの方々にご来場いただき、スーパーソルガムとその圃場に隣接するサトウキビとの生育日数や背丈の比較、スーパーソルガムから生成した濃縮糖液の試食、スーパーソルガムの性能に関するプレゼンテーションなどを実施した結果、各方面からバーデキン地区におけるスーパーソルガムの優位性について、大変高い評価をいただきました。オーストラリア国内でも特に高い収量を誇るバーデキン地区においてスーパーソルガムが評価されたことは、当社にとってもスーパーソルガムのポテンシャルの高さを改めて再確認する良い結果となりました。

 

■今後の展開について
また、大手粗糖会社、現地農業組合に対する事前交渉や本見学会開催の結果、バーデキン地区におけるスーパーソルガム導入に関する共同検討開始について基本合意に至りました。今後の展開といたしまして、(株)スーパーソルガムは前述の粗糖会社および農業組合との間で、スーパーソルガムの生育データ提示を前提とした粗糖原料としてのスーパーソルガム導入検討、サトウキビからスーパーソルガムへの順次置換えのための導入計画の策定を実施し、来年度を目標としたスーパーソルガム種子の販路獲得に向けた取り組みを推進してまいります。

Notice of Tour Held at a Super Sorghum Pilot Farm in Queensland, Australia

SOL Holdings Corp. (“the Company”) is pleased to announce that its subsidiary Super Sorghum Corp. has held a tour on March 10, 2014, on cultivated land for Super Sorghum in Burdekin in the state of Queensland in the Commonwealth of Australia, (“Australia”).

As per the “Notice of Implementation of Demonstration Cultivation in Australia” released on September 25, 2013, the SOL Holdings Group has been carrying out a demonstration cultivation on cultivated land owned by a local agricultural cooperative association in Burdekin, in the Australian state of Queensland, to exhibit the viability of growing Super Sorghum.

Australia is the world’s leading producer of sugar cane, which is mainly used as a source for raw sugar after harvesting. Of all the locations, Burdekin, in the state of Queensland in Australia, is a major producing hub that touts top-level production of sugar cane in the world, with the entire region’s annual production of sugar cane at around 9 million tons. Burdekin is an arid region, but has abundant ground water. It is the only area in all of Queensland that employs an irrigation method (to artificially supply water to cultivated land for agricultural produce) that uses this ground water on the cultivated land, thereby enabling the region to yield more than the standard, with the volume of sugar cane production in Burdekin at around 120 tons per hectare, compared with an average of around 86 tons per hectare for all of Australia. Cultivation that takes advantage of the weather and the irrigation method in Burdekin is also very beneficial for Super Sorghum and in this demonstration cultivation, Super Sorghum recorded growth of over 5 meters in around four months since seeds were sowed.

A tour of the cultivated land for Super Sorghum was held on March 10, 2014, in order to have participants actually witness Super Sorghum’s astounding performance in this cultivation demonstration. A great many people were able to attend, including parties from the Queensland Government, major raw sugar companies that operate multiple factories both in Australia and abroad, the local agricultural cooperative association as well as domestic and foreign companies. Super Sorghum grown in Burdekin received high praise after the tour, which showed Super Sorghum’s superiority from various angles, such as by providing a comparison of the cultivation period and the height between Super Sorghum and sugar cane grown on land adjacent to the cultivated site, taste testing of concentrated syrup made from Super Sorghum and a presentation on Super Sorghum’s performance. The result of the tour was favorable as Super Sorghum’s great potential was reconfirmed, given that Super Sorghum was praised in Burdekin where harvesting volume is especially high in Australia.

Also, a basic agreement was concluded with respect to conducting a joint study on introducing Super Sorghum to Burdekin as a result of this tour and previous negotiations with major raw sugar companies and the local agricultural cooperative association.

Going forward, Super Sorghum Corp. will move forward with initiatives aimed at securing a sales channel for Super Sorghum seeds by next fiscal year, and to this end, the company, along with the aforementioned raw sugar companies and the local agricultural cooperative association, will consider introducing Super Sorghum as a raw sugar based on the condition that growth data on Super Sorghum is presented and will formulate an adoption plan to progressively replace sugar cane with Super Sorghum.
