Wada FoodTech is Changing the Future of School Catering with a Hot-Chain

Total Solution

Wada FoodTech has successfully expanded its operations in Hong Kong over the years, demonstrating its expertise in addressing key challenges related to food safety and quality in school lunches. This commitment to innovation provides schools, students, and parents with an exceptional dining experience.

Hot-Chain Technology: Solving School Lunch Challenges

Traditional school lunches often struggle with inconsistent food quality, inadequate temperature control, and lack of standards in storage and distribution. Many students avoid school-provided meals, resulting in parents either waking up early to prepare lunches or delivering meals to schools themselves, which adds stress to daily routines. Wada FoodTech has addressed these pain points by utilizing its hot-chain technology to ensure that freshly prepared lunches remain above 65°C throughout the entire logistics process, from kitchen to automated distribution machines, without the need for freezing or reheating. This ensures that students receive warm, fresh, and delicious meals directly at school.

Successful Implementation in Hong Kong Schools

Wada FoodTech has already established a strong presence in four schools and four universities across Hong Kong, including Pooi To Primary School and several leading universities such as The University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Hong Kong Baptist University. At Pooi To Primary School, where the system was initially piloted, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from students, parents, and teachers alike, leading to a full-scale implementation. Since its launch, Wada FoodTech has successfully delivered tens of thousands of hot meals to students.

New Pre-Order System Enhances Convenience and Safety

In response to growing demand, Wada FoodTech has introduced an innovative online pre-order system that significantly enhances the meal selection process for parents and students. At the end of each month, parents and kids can conveniently select their bentos and place orders on Wada FoodTech’s user-friendly online platform. After completing the payment, they receive a unique QR code that streamlines the meal collection process.

The following month, students can simply visit the vending machines to pick up their meals using the QR codes without the need to remember their specific orders.

Moreover, the online platform clearly displays detailed information about allergens and special ingredients for each meal. This transparency allows parents and children to avoid potential concerns related to allergies, religious dietary restrictions, and personal tastes, ensuring a safe and enjoyable dining experience for everyone.

Expanding to Japan: A New Era for School Catering

Looking ahead, Wada FoodTech is preparing to expand its hot-chain technology solution to schools in Japan, with the goal of addressing similar challenges in school

catering. This expansion aims to alleviate the current labor shortage in hiring staff for school catering, ensuring that parents in Japan, as in Hong Kong, can rest easy knowing their children are enjoying safe, nutritious, and allergen-conscious meals at school. Wada FoodTech’s innovative approach will not only improve food quality and safety but also modernize the entire school catering system, bringing convenience and peace of mind to families and schools alike. By streamlining operations and reducing the reliance on manual labor, this initiative will support schools in efficiently managing their catering services while maintaining high standards of care for students.

Mr. Oikawa Manabu, Food Scientist and Co-founder of Wada FoodTech, highlighted the company’s mission: “Our hot-chain technology keeps meals at the optimal temperature above 65°C, ensuring that students can enjoy warm and fresh lunches. After successfully applying this technology in workplaces, hospitals, and construction sites, we are confident it will transform school catering in both Hong Kong and Japan.”
