bonobo LLCは、着物に込められた時代の物語と美意識を現代アートとして再構築する"ikasu"を展開しています。このたび、2025年12月6日・7日、伊勢丹マレーシアが主催する招待制イベント「丹青会」において、ikasuの作品展示・販売を行いました。

今回、4回目の開催となる伊勢丹マレーシアの丹青会において、ikasuの作品を展示・販売させていただく機会をいただきました。アンティーク着物をアップサイクルした現代アート作品は、多くのお客様から高い評価を頂きました。

アーティストLena Okamotoによる特別なオーダーメイドサービス

今回のイベントは、特別な体験として、アーティストのLena Okamoto自らが東京から100枚以上の厳選されたアンティーク着物生地を持参。お客様がお好きな生地をお選びいただき、Lena Okamotoがその場でお客様だけの唯一無二のアート作品へと生まれ変わらせるオーダーメイドサービスを提供いたしました。

ikasuとは

着物に第二の人生を。

日本の家庭には膨大な着物や帯が眠っています。しかし着る機会の減少や保管の難しさから、廃棄される着物が増えているのが現状です。ikasuは、着物を「持ち主の思い出」「作家の作品」「日本の伝統文化」として捉え、現代空間に調和するアート作品へと昇華させます。

着物は「着る芸術」。織り・染色・刺繍・装飾が手作業で施された一点ものの芸術品です。ikasuは、その歴史・技術・文様・物語を尊重しながら、伝統工芸と現代デザインを融合させた唯一無二の作品を制作。環境配慮と文化価値の両立を実現しています。

ikasuの作品は、日本をはじめアメリカ、ヨーロッパ諸国、アジア、中東など20カ国以上の家庭、ホテル、店舗で愛好されています。

Textile Artist Lena Okamoto

東京を拠点に活動するテキスタイルアーティスト。日本文化研究の学士号と東京大学修士課程を経て、記憶・アイデンティティ・変容をテーマにした作品を制作しています。

色褪せや傷は時間の痕跡として尊重し、着物を切る行為を「破壊ではなく再生」と捉えます。きものマイスター資格と広告業界でのクリエイティブ経験を持ち、繊細さと詩的感性を併せ持つアーティストです。

日本全国を巡り、作品へと生まれ変わらせるアンティーク着物を厳選。額にはアンティークの桐たんすを活用するなど、徹底したアップサイクルを実践しています。

彼女にとってテキスタイルは「見えるかたちになった記憶」。文化的遺産を保存・再解釈し、新たな命を吹き込むアートです。

課題解決

ikasuの取り組みは衣服の廃棄問題の解決にも寄与しております。着物や帯は裏地まで丁寧に加工し、額にはアンティークの桐たんすを活かすなど、オールアップサイクルを目指しています。

Kimono Art “ikasu” Exhibits and Sells at Isetan Malaysia's Invitation-Only Event “Tanseikai”

bonobo LLC operates “ikasu,” which reconstructs the stories and aesthetic sensibilities of past eras embodied in kimono as contemporary art. On December 6 and 7, 2025, ikasu exhibited its works at the invitation-only event “Tanseikai” hosted by Isetan Malaysia.

This marks the fourth iteration of Isetan Malaysia's Tanseikai event, where we were honored to exhibit and sell ikasu's works. Our contemporary art pieces, created by upcycling antique kimonos, received high praise from many customers.

Special Custom-Made Service by Artist Lena Okamoto

For this special event, artist Lena Okamoto brought over 100 pieces of carefully selected antique kimono fabric from Tokyo. Customers chose their favorite fabric, and Lena Okamoto provided a custom-made service, transforming it on the spot into a one-of-a-kind artwork exclusively for them.

Isetan Malaysia's VIP customer service room has also begun displaying and selling

ikasu's works are also displayed and sold at the Isetan Malaysia VIP customer service room. This private space is reserved for special clients, allowing you to view the story behind each ikasu piece in a relaxed atmosphere.

About ikasu

Giving Kimonos a Second Life

Vast quantities of kimonos and obis lie dormant in Japanese households. However, with decreasing opportunities to wear them and the difficulty of storage, many kimonos are being discarded. ikasu views kimonos as "owners' memories," "artists' works," and "Japanese traditional culture," transforming them into art pieces that harmonize with contemporary spaces.

Kimonos are "wearable art"—one-of-a-kind masterpieces created through handcrafted weaving, dyeing, embroidery, and decoration. ikasu creates unique works that fuse traditional craftsmanship with modern design while respecting the history, techniques, patterns, and stories of each piece, achieving both environmental consideration and cultural value preservation.

ikasu's works are enjoyed in homes, hotels, and stores across more than 20 countries, including Japan, the United States, European nations, Asia, and the Middle East.

Textile Artist Lena Okamoto

A textile artist based in Tokyo. After earning a bachelor's degree in Japanese cultural studies and completing a master's program at the University of Tokyo, she creates works centered on themes of memory, identity, and transformation.

She collaborates with antique dealers and kimono specialists to carefully select fabrics imbued with stories. Fading and damage are respected as traces of time, and she views the act of cutting kimonos as "rebirth, not destruction." With a kimono master certification and creative experience in the advertising industry, she is an artist who combines delicacy with poetic sensibility.

She meticulously selects antique kimonos from across Japan, transforming them into new works of art. We practice thorough upcycling, such as repurposing antique paulownia chests as frames.

For her, textiles are "memories made visible"—an art form that preserves, reinterprets, and breathes new life into cultural heritage.

Addressing Social Challenges

ikasu's initiatives contribute to solving clothing waste issues. Kimonos and obis are carefully processed down to the lining, and antique paulownia chests are utilized for frames, aiming for complete upcycling.
