愛農高校は有機農業を教える全寮制の農業高校で、多くの卒業生がボランティアとしてアジア学院に来るなどして、長く交流を続けてきました。西日本研修では、校内に宿泊させていただき、農場や校舎を見学したり、高校生たちとディスカッションや歌、ダンスで交流を行います。

今年、アジア学院で1年間の研修を行っている、愛農高校 専攻科生の岡 聡次朗さんにお話を聞きました。彼は在学中、アジア学院の様々な国の学生たちが、自分たちのために歌を歌ってくれたのが印象的で、滅多にない機会だと大変感銘を受けたそうです。
愛農高校でも、沖縄や広島を訪れて、戦争の歴史について学ぶ機会があり、アジア学院の西日本研修に対する思いを語ってくれました。

「学生たちが西日本研修に行けないのは、とてももったいないと感じます。どの国にも戦争や公害など様々な問題があるからです。それを自分が知らないとしたら、怖いと思います。広島も沖縄も、知ることで、（問題や歴史に）心が向き、考え方が変わり、さらにはそれが生き方を変えることにつながるからです。学生たちにとっては他国の学びですが、同時に自分たちの国の問題につながるので、大事な研修機会だと思います。」

寄付キャンペーン「隣人とやさしく生きる」について

アジア学院の学生たち（農村コミュニティリーダー）が、教室を飛び出して広島・水俣・関西などを12日間にわたり巡り、平和、公害、多文化共生、有機農業などを現場から直接学ぶ「西日本研修」。彼らが自国に持ち帰り、地域社会に変化をもたらすための非常に重要なプログラムですが、昨今の物価高騰などの影響により、研修を継続・充実させるための資金が不足しています。

これを乗り越えるため、8月1日よりクラウドファンディングに挑戦します。そして現在、当キャンペーンの「子キャンペーン」としてご自身のページを立ち上げ、ご友人やSNSのフォロワー等に寄付を呼びかけてくださる「サポートファンディングパートナー」を募集しています。

The importance of knowing the history: Western Japan Study Tour (WJST) at Aino High School of Agriculture in Iga

Only 3 days left until the launch of our crowdfunding campaign on August 1st!
Today, we would like to introduce our study tour at Aino High School of Agriculture in Iga.

Aino High School is a full-boarding agricultural high school that teaches organic farming. We have enjoyed a long-standing partnership, with many of its graduates coming to ARI as volunteers. During the WJST, Participants stay on their campus, tour the farm and school facilities, and connect with the high school students through discussions, songs, and dances.

We spoke with Sojiro Oka, a post-graduate student at Aino High School who is currently undergoing a one-year training program at ARI. He recalled being deeply moved during his high school days when ARI participants from various countries sang a song for them, calling it a truly rare and memorable experience.
Having visited Okinawa and Hiroshima to learn about the history of war during his time at Aino High School, he shared his thoughts on the significance of the WJST:

"I feel it would be a huge loss if the participants couldn't go WJST. Every country faces various issues, such as war and pollution. If I remained ignorant of those things, I would find that scary. By learning about places like Hiroshima and Okinawa, our hearts are drawn to these issues and history, which changes how we think, and ultimately, how we live. Although this trip allows participants to learn about another country, it also connects back to the issues of their own home countries. That is why I believe it is such a vital learning opportunity."
