アジア学院西日本研修寄付キャンペーン「隣人とやさしく生きる」、セカンドゴール220万円を達成 ― 終戦の日とアジア学院創立の原点 農村伝道神学校

約150名のご支援に感謝。終戦の日にあわせ、アジア学院創立の原点となった、創立者と加害の歴史との出会いの物語をお届けします。

 

 

学校法人アジア学院（所在地：栃木県那須塩原市、代表：山本俊正）が2026年8月1日（土）に開始したクラウドファンディング「隣人とやさしく生きる」は、開始初日に最初のゴール100万円(交通費)を達成し、わずか12日でセカンドゴール宿泊費・食費・研修費を含めた総額220万円を達成しました。(8月12日時点で支援総額2,202,899円、支援者147名)

あわせて、西日本研修の訪問先を紹介する現地レポートの続編として、8月15日「終戦の日」にあわせ、アジア学院創立の原点となった、東京都町田市の農村伝道神学校での学びをお届けします。

西日本研修の学生たちが毎年、12日間の旅の最初の訪問先として訪れる場所です。

 アジア学院と第二次世界大戦 ― 創立者が出会った、戦争被害の歴史を背負う人々 

アジア学院の創立者・故高見敏弘先生は、教鞭をとっていた農村伝道神学校の東南アジアコースで、台湾、韓国、ミャンマー、フィリピンなど、かつて日本軍による被害を受けた国々から来た人々と出会いました。その出会いは、単なる痛みの共有にとどまるものではありませんでした。高見先生は、彼らの語る経験を、深い敬意と感謝をもって受け止めたといいます。

 

この出会いが、「共に生きるために」を掲げるアジア学院の創立へとつながりました。仕えるリーダーシップを教える学校として、1973年の創立以来、アジア学院はこれまでに63カ国から1,472名の卒業生を送り出してきました。卒業生の出身国には、インド、フィリピン、インドネシア、ミャンマーなど、かつて日本が侵攻した国々が多く含まれています。

 

西日本研修では、学生たちは毎年、その旅の最初の一歩として、町田の農村伝道神学校を訪れ、アジア学院の原点に触れます。それは、痛みの歴史とどう向き合い、そこからどう「共に生きる」道を築いていくかを学ぶ、静かな出発点です。

 

昨年、アジア学院は80周年を迎えた終戦の節目にあわせ、平和宣言を発表しました。この歴史を胸に、22名の学生たちは今年11月、西日本研修へと旅立ちます。

アジア学院の学生たち（農村コミュニティリーダー）が、教室を飛び出して広島・水俣・関西などを12日間にわたり巡り、平和、公害、多文化共生、有機農業などを現場から直接学ぶ「西日本研修」。彼らが自国に持ち帰り、地域社会に変化をもたらすための非常に重要なプログラムですが、昨今の物価高騰などの影響により、研修を継続・充実させるための資金が不足しています。

 

これを乗り越えるため、8月1日よりクラウドファンディングに挑戦しています。また現在、当キャンペーンの「子キャンペーン」としてご自身のページを立ち上げ、ご友人やSNSのフォロワー等に寄付を呼びかけてくださる「サポートファンディングパートナー」を募集しています。

 Asian Rural Institute's Western Japan Study Tour Crowdfunding Campaign, "Living Kindly with Neighbors," Reaches Its Second Goal of ¥2.2 Million ― The Anniversary of Japan's Surrender and ARI's Founding Origins at the Theological Seminary for Rural Mission

 

With gratitude to approximately 150 supporters. Coinciding with the anniversary of Japan's surrender, we share the story behind ARI's founding — its founder's encounter with the history of harm Japan caused others.

The Asian Rural Institute (ARI, Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture; Representative: Toshimasa Yamamoto) launched its "Living Kindly with Neighbors" crowdfunding campaign on Saturday, August 1, 2026. On the very first day, ARI reached its first goal of ¥1,000,000 (covering transportation costs), and in just 12 days, reached its Second Goal of ¥2,200,000 in total, covering accommodation, meals, and program costs as well. (As of August 12th, total donations stand at ¥2,202,899, from 147 supporters.)

As part of our ongoing series of on-the-ground reports from the Western Japan Study Tour's destinations, coinciding with the anniversary of Japan's surrender at the end of World War II, we share the story of the Theological Seminary for Rural Mission in Machida, Tokyo, the very place where ARI's founding story began.

It is the first stop every year on the 12-day Western Japan Study Tour.

 Asian Rural Institute and World War II ― The Founder's Encounter with Those Who Carried the Wounds of War

 

While teaching in the Southeast Asia course at the Theological Seminary for Rural Mission, ARI's late founder, Dr. Toshihiro Takami, encountered people from Taiwan, Korea, Myanmar, and the Philippines — countries that had once suffered harm at the hands of the Japanese military. These encounters were never simply about sharing pain. Dr. Takami is said to have received their stories with deep respect and gratitude.

This encounter led to the founding of Asian Rural Institute — a school built on the motto "That We May Live Together," teaching servant leadership. Since 1973, ARI has sent 1,472 graduates from 63 countries out into the world. Among the countries our graduates come from are many that Japan once invaded, including India, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Myanmar.

Every year during the Western Japan Study Tour, participants begin their 12-day journey by visiting the seminary in Machida, touching the roots of ARI itself. It is a quiet starting point for learning how to face a painful history, and how to build a path of living together from it.

Last year, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the war, ARI released a Peace Declaration. Carrying this history with them, this November, 22 participants will set out on the Western Japan Study Tour.

 About the "Living Kindly with Neighbors" Fundraising Campaign 

The "Western Japan Study Tour" takes ARI participants (rural community leaders) out of the classroom for a 12-day journey through Hiroshima, Minamata, and the Kansai region to learn firsthand about peace, pollution, multicultural coexistence, and organic farming. It is a highly important program that empowers them to bring back this knowledge to their home countries and create positive changes in their local communities. However, due to recent factors such as soaring prices, we are facing a shortage of funds to continue and enhance this training.

To overcome this challenge, we are challenging ourselves with a crowdfunding campaign starting August 1st. We are currently seeking "Support Funding Partners" who are willing to set up their own personal sub-campaign pages and call for donations from their friends and SNS followers.
