寄付キャンペーン「隣人とやさしく生きる」クラウドファンディング支援者200名突破 ― 9月は卒業生の物語をお届けします

「1人への投資が、1,000人を変える」。世界の卒業生たちが実践する変化と、日本のキャンパスで農村コミュニティリーダーたちが学ぶ理由を、集中連載でご紹介します。

学校法人アジア学院（所在地：栃木県那須塩原市、代表：山本俊正）が2026年8月1日（土）に開始したクラウドファンディング「隣人とやさしく生きる」は、支援者数が200名を突破しました。開始から1か月が経ったことを機に、9月はこれまでとは異なる角度から、キャンペーンでご支援いただいている学びの「その先」をお伝えしています。

 「1人への投資が、1,000人を変える」― 卒業生たちの物語 

西日本研修を含むアジア学院の研修の成果は、卒業生たちが自国に戻り、地域で実践する働きの一つひとつにこそ表れます。あるインドの卒業生は、アジア学院の人材育成についてこう語りました。

「単体のプロジェクトに同じ額を投資しても、あまり継続的な支援は望めないでしょう。だけど、私の奨学金団体は、私という人間に投資をしてくれました。そして私はこの25年間、生きて人々のために働き続けてきました」

「100円でも1,000円でも学生1人に投資することは、その背後にいる1,000人を変えることになるのです。100人どころじゃないんです、1,000人ですよ！」

ナミビアで実現した「100%リサイクル」― 卒業生ジョナの働き

9月最初にご紹介したのは、アフリカ南西部・ナミビアで環境教育に取り組む2024年卒業生、ジョナス・ポムビリ・ンデウルディラさんの物語です。ジョナさんが運営に携わる「ナミブ砂漠環境教育基金（NaDEET）」では、5日間の宿泊型環境教育プログラムを通じて、毎年800名以上の参加者を受け入れています。

アジア学院で学んだ「必要なものは周りにある」という言葉は、ジョナさんのセンターでの100%リサイクル達成に大きな役割を果たしました。かつてゴミとみなされていた材料は、堆肥や資材として生まれ変わり、豊かに育つ菜園は、アジア学院のモットー「言行一致」を体現しています。

なぜ世界の農村コミュニティリーダーたちが日本のアジア学院に来て、いったい何を学ぶのか。9月は、卒業生たちの実践と、キャンパスでの学びの両方から、その問いにお答えしていきます。

アジア学院の学生たち（農村コミュニティリーダー）が、教室を飛び出して広島・水俣・関西などを12日間にわたり巡り、平和、公害、多文化共生、有機農業などを現場から直接学ぶ「西日本研修」。彼らが自国に持ち帰り、地域社会に変化をもたらすための非常に重要なプログラムです。

 Asian Rural Institute Crowdfunding Campaign Surpasses 200 Supporters ― September Brings Stories from Our Graduates 

"Investing in one person changes 1,000 lives." A special series this September features the change our graduates are creating around the world, and why rural community leaders come to study on our campus in Japan. 

The Asian Rural Institute (ARI, Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture; Representative: Toshimasa Yamamoto) launched its "Living Kindly with Neighbors" crowdfunding campaign on Saturday, August 1, 2026, and has now surpassed 200 supporters. Marking one month since the campaign began, September brings a new angle on the learning this campaign supports — following it beyond the classroom.

 "Investing in One Person Changes 1,000 Lives" ― Stories from Our Graduates

The true outcome of ARI's training, including the Western Japan Study Tour, is reflected in the work our graduates carry out after returning to their communities. One graduate from India shared this reflection on ARI's approach to leadership development: "If you invest the same amount of money into a single isolated project, you cannot expect long-term, sustainable support. But my scholarship organization invested in me as a person. Because of that, for the past 25 years, I have been alive and continuously working for the people.""Investing in a single participant — whether it is 100 yen or 1,000 yen — will transform the 1,000 people standing behind them. It's not just 100 people; it's 1,000!"

100% Recycling in Namibia ― The Work of Graduate Jonah

September's first feature introduced Jonas Pombili Nduuldila, a 2024 graduate working in environmental education in Namibia, in southwestern Africa. Jonah is involved in running the Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust (NaDEET), which welcomes more than 800 participants each year through five-day residential environmental education programs. A phrase Jonah learned at ARI — "what you need is around you" — played a major role in achieving 100% recycling at his center. Materials once considered waste have been transformed into valuable resources, and the thriving garden it supports embodies ARI's own motto of putting words into practice. 

Why do rural community leaders from around the world come to Japan's Asian Rural Institute — and what exactly do they learn there? This September, we're answering that question both through our graduates' work in the field, and through the learning happening on our own campus.

The "Western Japan Study Tour" takes ARI participants (rural community leaders) out of the classroom for a 12-day journey through Hiroshima, Minamata, and the Kansai region to learn firsthand about peace, pollution, multicultural coexistence, and organic farming.
